According to Politico, Melania Trump is expected to officially move to Washington next week. Melania plans on joining Donald Trump at the White House on June 14, bringing along Barron Trump.
The June 14 date has reportedly emerged as a major marker on the White House’s calendar as it follows the end of Barron Trump’s school year.
Politico reported that Melania Trump’s parents, Amalija and Victor Knavs, are also expected to become more familiar figures in Washington following her move.
The Knavs currently live with Melania and Barron Trump in their Trump Tower penthouse in New York City and often help care for the latter.
Melania Trump’s parents reportedly often spend weekends with her and her family at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla. or the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.
Politico also reported that Melania Trump has begun spending more time at the White House before the move.
Melania Trump has reportedly begun expanding her staff in the East Wing, preparing the residence for her family and gradually filling out her schedule of public events.
“Her presence is not going to stop any investigations, but at a time when this particular presidency needs an air of stability, it might lend that,” said Katherine Jellison, a history professor at Ohio University who specializes in first lady studies. “The move helps to give the impression that the president is currently in a stable, solid marriage and that his home life is under control.”
Melania is often supportive of her husband’s harder line, extremist viewpoints. She is a hard-line pro-Israel supporter. She has publicly defended Trump’s Muslim Ban, and in the past has perpetuated her husband’s birther conspiracy theories, as well as his disdain for the media.
“It’s not only Donald who wants to see it,” she said of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate in an appearance on The View in 2011. “It’s the American people… It’s not him that’s bringing it up. It’s the media, all the time, all the time.”
